Youthful Sandwiches of Yore
Late in the novel ANGELA SLOAN by James Whorton, Jr., a hippie is observed making sandwiches of margarine and sugar. This will of course put the attentive "blog" reader in mind of the butter and sugar sandwiches that Whorton enjoyed in his youth. Yet the author distances himself from the sandwiches, having his narrator state bluntly, "I have never seen this kind of sandwich before." Thus do we see the complicated way in which the author's life is represented in his work. But is it any of our business? Probably not!
