Hey, if you're reading the smooth and saucy Francis Steegmuller translation of
Madame Bovary, don't read the introduction, even though it's at the front of the book. The first sentence gives everything away! I mean, I "knew," but I didn't want to KNOW. I still love you, Mr. Steegmuller.
